Introducing Chris Smart, Head of Business Development and Engagement at the CIBD
We are pleased to announce that Chris Smart has joined the CIBD as the Head of Business Development and Engagement!
Chris brings a wealth of brewing, distilling and business development experience with previous roles as Contracts Manager at Renegade Brewery, Co-founder and Managing Director of The Surrey Copper Distillery and Head of Brewing Services at Campden BRI. Additionally, Chris has spent 5 years as Deputy Development Director at the University of Nottingham, further strengthening his expertise in technical training in brewing and distilling.

- Join us in Edinburgh on 20th February for 'Current Research in Brewing and Distilling' to hear five PhD researchers from Heriot-Watt University, Queens University Belfast, and University of Nottingham present their research.
- Attend a technical seminar on 'Get The Best From Your Raw Materials' on 25th February in Bristol to hear a panel of experts discuss how to produce the best beer, and which factors and the type of raw materials are vital to make this possible.
- Sign up for the 'Carbon Literacy Workshop in the Brewing sector' on 27 February 2025 in Leeds conducted by 86-Carbon in association with Murphy and Son. Discover the basics of climate change's impact on the brewing sector and explore actionable solutions for your brewery.
- If you are attending SIBA BeerX in Liverpool this year, join us for an informal social and chat with other BeerX attendees over a beer or two! You will also have the opportunity to tour Love Lane Brewery, led by Head Brewer Matt Buist.
- The Southern section will be hosting an exciting event - offering a behind-the-scenes distillery tour in London. The tour is limited to 30 places - Priority will be given to CIBD members and CIBD Distilling candidates, but all are welcome to register their interest!
