Diploma in Brewing Module 1 Tutor
Ed Wray
Ed started brewing at home as a teenager but his brewing knowledge has improved considerably since then with him gaining the Master Brewer qualification in 2021.
He started his working life in a laboratory after getting a degree in Microbiology from Imperial College, London. Working as a microbiologist is a useful job when it comes to homebrewing but it wasn’t enough to satisfy Ed’s obsession with beer so he took up a scholarship to study Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh) in 2007.
Since graduating from there he has worked at a number of breweries of various sizes, ranging from being Project Brewer Maltster at the one hl pilot plant at Campden BRI to working as a Hygiene Specialist at a four million hl a year site. Mostly though he’s worked as Head Brewer at craft breweries managing all areas of operation and his beers have won national awards from both CAMRA and SIBA.
His hobbies include rock climbing and martial arts (mostly Muay Thai and BJJ) and he’s currently in the process of moving back to the south of England which isn’t great for rock climbing but is very handy for his favourite pub.
